Fan Reactions: Excitement, Surprises & Controversies

Fan response to the 2025 lineup reveal has been passionate and mixed, as expected for a festival with such a storied legacy. Longtime Warped devotees are thrilled to see the tour revived for its 30th anniversary and have praised the breadth of the lineup. With 70–100 bands per city, many are saying that “everyone is bound to like a good chunk of the lineup… If you don’t end up seeing a handful of bands you like… you just aren’t really into this type of music”.

The inclusion of so many different genres and eras has generated excitement across the board – older fans are eager to relive their youth with Yellowcard, The Starting Line, Pennywise, and Streetlight Manifesto, while a younger generation is excited to finally experience Warped Tour for the first time with current favorites like nothing, nowhere., Scene Queen, and Magnolia Park. On social media, many have expressed disbelief (and delight) at how stacked the lineups are: “Warped Tour 2025 is literally my entire high school iPod on one bill,” one Twitter user joked, highlighting the mix of 2000s pop-punk bands and newer acts.

Several surprise reunions are among the most buzzed-about announcements. Fans are ecstatic that defunct bands like Chiodos, Letlive., Dance Hall Crashers, Gym Class Heroes, Head Automatica, Cobra Starship, and The Starting Line will be taking the stage again

“Is this 2008?! Gym Class Heroes AND Cobra Starship at Warped Tour again – I’m not okay,” one fan tweeted, underscoring the nostalgia factor. Another major talking point is Avril Lavigne’s Warped debut – after decades as a pop-punk icon adjacent to the scene, her first appearance on Warped Tour has fans very hyped

“Avril on Warped Tour… dreams do come true,” wrote one commenter, with others noting that her finally playing Warped is a full-circle moment for the 2000s pop-punk era.

Fans are also applauding the genre diversity and bold choices. The presence of rap/hip-hop artists (like MGK, blackbear, Ho99o9, Yung Gravy and even Ice-T himself) alongside hardcore and metalcore bands (Slaughter To Prevail, Left To Suffer), indie/emo acts, and ska/punk veterans has led many to comment that Warped Tour “truly has something for everyone” this year. Warped has a history of mixing genres, and 2025’s lineup is no exception – as one music site noted, the bill spans “punk, alternative rock, and hip-hop, delivering something for every music lover”.

Of course, no lineup announcement comes without controversy or debate. One of the most polarizing additions has been Machine Gun Kelly (MGK). While some fans are excited to see the rap-turned-pop-punk star play D.C. and Orlando (especially given his recent success in the pop-punk revival), others have voiced skepticism. Critics in rock forums argue that MGK’s history of feuds with scene veterans and his mainstream status don’t align with Warped Tour’s DIY spirit. (It didn’t help that MGK himself once trash-talked Warped veterans – a fact a few commenters were quick to meme about.) Nonetheless, many attendees acknowledge that MGK brings extra attention to the festival, and his sets are likely to draw huge crowds.

Another point of discussion has been the involvement of Live Nation and the festival-style rollout. Warped Tour is now backed by Live Nation as a series of destination festivals rather than the old cross-country caravan

Some veteran fans were initially wary, comparing the 2025 Warped to Live Nation’s When We Were Young festival – essentially “an emo/pop-punk nostalgia fest” in a few cities. There were concerns that tickets would be far more expensive than the famously cheap Warped Tour of the past (which used to be ~$30 a day) and that big corporate oversight might change the vibe

Indeed, tickets sold out fast for D.C. and Long Beach (and weren’t $30 anymore), but the demand suggests most fans were willing to pay for the experience

On the upside, the scale of these events and Live Nation’s backing allowed organizers to book many more bands and bigger productions than a typical DIY tour might.

Some disappointment has been voiced by fans whose personal favorite bands didn’t end up on the bill – inevitable given the limited slots. In the early rollout, a few vocal critics on Instagram even threatened to sell their tickets when their dream headliners weren’t announced

However, many other fans pushed back against the negativity, pointing out that no single Warped lineup can have every band you love, and with over 200 artists across three shows, it’s hard not to find a lot to enjoy

As one Reddit user noted during the rollout: “Everyone is feeling the same way with certain bands – we’re all going to win some and lose some… In the end, everyone will get what they want and be happy”

That sentiment seems to be bearing out as the full rosters came into view. The general buzz on forums now is overwhelmingly positive, with fans counting down the days to summer and planning travel to their nearest Warped stop (or even hitting multiple cities).

What’s Next for Warped Tour?

With Warped Tour officially “back” (albeit in a new format), many are wondering if this 30th anniversary revival is a one-time celebration or the start of a new chapter. Kevin Lyman, the founder of Warped Tour, has been giving some hints in interviews. He acknowledged that doing a 40-date nationwide tour is no longer practical (“My body won’t take riding around on a tour bus for 40 cities,” he joked) – which is why the 2025 edition is limited to three destination weekends

However, Lyman also made it clear that if these events go well, Warped Tour could expand or continue in the future. “If it works, we’ll look to the future to do more,” he said, suggesting that Warped might adopt this multi-city festival model again or add more regional stops down the line

In other words, 2025 might be just the beginning of Warped’s resurgence, rather than a farewell.

Behind the scenes, there have been some organizational changes. Warped Tour 2025 is being produced in partnership with Live Nation, marking the first time the traditionally indie festival has had backing from a major concert promoter

Lyman remains heavily involved in curating the lineup and the overall vibe, but Live Nation’s involvement has brought in additional resources and infrastructure. This could pave the way for Warped Tour to become an annual festival franchise (similar to how Live Nation runs multiple annual festivals), as opposed to the grueling yearly traveling tour of the past. So far, the formula seems successful: both the D.C. and Long Beach events sold out quickly, and Orlando is on track to do the same

The strong ticket demand may encourage organizers to consider more dates or bigger venues in the future.

In terms of the show experience, fans can expect some familiar Warped Tour elements and a few new twists. Warped’s tradition of fostering new talent continues with the return of the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands contest, where up-and-coming groups compete for a chance to play at Warped Tour

(Submissions are open through May 1, 2025, and the winning band will get to perform at one of the stops, keeping alive Warped’s mission to elevate undiscovered artists.) The festival is also teaming up with a range of sponsors – from Vans (of course) to an array of lifestyle brands (energy drinks, beverages, etc.) – which means attendees will see brand activations and attractions on site, much like the old days when the festival had skate ramps, vendor tents, and nonprofit booths

The 30th anniversary shows will likely lean into Warped Tour nostalgia as well, possibly with retrospective merch, photo exhibits of past tours, or even cameos from scene celebrities. Lyman has been reminiscing about Warped’s legacy in press quotes, saying the anniversary feels “like both a celebration of its legacy and a fresh new chapter for the festival”.

As for additional lineup news, organizers have hinted that there are still some tricks up their sleeves. Each city still has a number of TBA slots, and the Warped Tour social media promised that more artists will be announced as the dates approach

There’s talk of potential special guest appearances – perhaps one-off surprise sets by veteran bands or collaborations on stage – but details are under wraps. “Fans can expect more exciting announcements in the coming months… whether it’s additional artists or surprise guest appearances,” one update teased

The staggered rollout of the lineup (which kept fans checking in daily throughout January/February) may continue with these late additions. Warped Tour’s team has encouraged fans to follow their official channels for these updates and hinted that the final reveals “will be worth the wait.”

Looking beyond 2025, the future of Warped Tour will likely depend on the reception of these three events. If the community vibe and positive energy that Kevin Lyman hoped to rekindle truly come to life (and it seems they are, given the social media buzz), Warped Tour could very well become an recurring event. Lyman has mused about the “sense of community” returning and said seeing the fan enthusiasm “proves that Warped Tour still has a place in the heart of the music scene”

In a recent interview, he noted that people didn’t realize how much Warped meant to them until it was gone, and his goal is to “recapture a lot of that again”.

For now, all eyes are on summer/fall 2025. In the immediate term, fans are just excited that Warped Tour is happening at all – many are treating it as a giant reunion party for the alternative music family. Online communities are busy discussing travel plans, what to pack, and which smaller bands deserve attention in between the big sets. Warped Tour’s legacy as a rite of passage for young bands and fans seems poised to continue, albeit in a new form. As one optimistic fan put it, “Warped is back, we all won some and lost some [with the lineup], but in the end this is going to be one for the books.”

If all goes well, 2025 won’t just be a nostalgic one-off – it could mark the revival of an annual punk-rock summer tradition, updated for a new generation. In Lyman’s own hopeful words: “Seeing the passion and energy from the fans just proves that Warped Tour still has a place… I can’t wait for everyone to experience what we’ve put together for 2025”
